Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins
You Are Here : Home / DVD Review / Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins
Black comedy about the happenings of Roscoe Jenkins as he returns home to his outlandish family for their 50th wedding anniversary.
The Truth : While funny at times,
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins isn’t anything too original nor over-the-top. While Martin Lawrence is funny, at times, you’ve seen most of these gags before. But, hey, this doesn’t make the movie any less entertaining though. James Earl Jones is hilarious as the RJ’s dad and his misfit cast of brothers and sisters really make the film quite entertaining.
The odd fart scene will still make you laugh, the racial insults are somewhat original (Hey, I thought they wanted to bury the “N” word, its used everywhere in this movie) and the outcome is predictable. Still,
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins wasn’t the worst movie I’ve seen in recent months.
You’ll Like It If : You remember the opening of The Nutty Professor, when Eddie Murphy’s family is trashing each other around the dinner table? How about the competition between Steve Martin and Eugene Levy in “Cheaper By The Dozen 2″? Did you laugh, how about a small chuckle? If you are into this silly humor and plot, you’ll like it. I’m a sucker for immature humor so I can live with the shortcomings of the movie.
The Verdict : Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins appears to be a movie in which he Martin Lawrence gets back to his comedic roots. You’ll like it, if you have a sense of humor like me.
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins is coming to DVD June 17th.

I also got an advanced copy of the DVD.. not sure what to make of this movie. Funny at times, just horrific at others. No boobies, what a downer.. some fine booty available for nude scenes.
The laughs have been done so many times, when does it get old? I’d say most of these laughs got old somewhere after … 1987. Not sure why they stereotype black people this much in movies, considering it was a Martin Lawrence production.
With a splash of “Uhhhh Huhhhhh” and “Oh No You Din’t!” .. the typical large black females who believe they are sexy.. and of course..the childhood rivalry that never goes away… we’ve seen this plot dozen’s of times.
Its a predicable movie, not all that funny.. but it could have been really good.
